"I am emailing you to ask you be praying for me yet again. To make a long story short...yesterday I went to the doctor because I have been having some pain in my left arm around the IV site from my stay in the hospital. There is a knot in my arm and it feels like a small rope under my skin. After an ultrasound the doctor has determined that I have a blood clot that begins at the IV site (which is in the middle of my forearm) and it has spread about half way up my upper arm.
The good news is that it originated in a superficial vein (the vein doesn't even have a name) however as it has spread it has moved into one of my 'major superficial veins'. The major superficial vein attaches to a main deep vein that carries blood directly to the heart and lungs. We can not let it reach that vein. The doctor did tell me that it has a good ways to travel before it reaches that vein but we can't rule that out. SO...my doctor is consulting with a vascular surgeon on how we should proceed. We are waiting on the radiologist to read the ultrasound as well. In the meantime I am taking Aspirin to try and thin my blood and doing warm compresses. The doctor is going to call me back by the end of the week and give me an update. He and the vascular surgeon are trying to determine if I need to be on a prescription blood thinner called Coumadin (something that I really do not want to have to do if at all possible).
Please pray that this clot resolves itself and that it doesn't spread any further. Please also pray for me and Chrisotpher, I have to say that we pretty scared. We just want it to go away and for ALL of this to be OVER!
